Somebody upgraded his dSLR. It’s been a joy shooting with my Canon Rebel XT, which for the last three years has served as an awesome digital companion. It slowly ceased to meet my demands and it was about time to step it up. The decision was between a Canon 40D or a Nikon D90.
I already have a handful of Canon lenses but I was primarily shooting with a 50mm prime (an old habit that never left me from when I’m shooting film) and the 18-55mm kit lens. 18mm is a joy to shoot. I hardly look through the viewfinder (an old habit I picked up from shooting “lomographically”). But too bad the kit lens is crap. I had a Tokina 28-70mm lens that hardly got any action and I ended up selling that as a package with the camera. Not a fan of zoom lenses but I am a fan of fixed 50mm and super wide angle lenses.
The Nikon D90 comes with an awesome 18-105mm lens. Yay. 18mm… And I already own 50mm prime that’ll work with the D90. So I copped me a Nikon D90. Sold the Rebel. Had some saved up. Financed the rest. I love it. It’s mine. And by mine I mean it’s tailored to my settings, my style of shooting and it has the same image sensor as the pro line D300. That’s hawrd.
What am I shooting with right now? The 50mm of course. So excited.
As for the Nikon vs. Canon debate. To me, it’s comparing Apples to Apples. But I admit it’s nice to carry across the same name of what i shoot with on film and now, digitally. For real. And kids, remember, it’s the shooter behind the viewfinder that makes a dope photo, but having a badass camera can’t hurt.
