Punching Fish

Friday, September 26th, 2008

Just another silly moment with Kate and Jeff. I woke up at 7 to get to work even earlier today.

*Loud thump against the computer desk*
Kate (waking up groggy and curious): Huh?? What was that? What was that sound?
Jeff: (just waking up) I was dreaming, and I punched a tuna.
Kate: Huh? (half asleep still) You know tunas are really big right?
Jeff: Yeah. I was fishing and we were hungry and I wanted to stun it so it doesn’t wiggle.
Kate: Tuna is tasty.

Kate falls back asleep and I get up to brush my teeth.

I Think I Have a Tapeworm

Thursday, September 25th, 2008

I went down a notch on my belt and my skinny jeans feel baggy. I think I have a tapeworm (don’t take me seriously, I’m over dramatic). My clothes, which Kate already claims are way too tight on me, feel like they’re getting looser. I pig out and stuff my face with cupcakes, cookies, donuts and chocolates two to three times a day (seriously). I don’t work out. I sit at a desk all day. My bike ride is only 12 miles. Yes. I have a tapeworm. I complained about this at work and had fecal matter thrown at me. Anyhow, remember 2002?

Farewell Again

Monday, September 15th, 2008

Iris made her move to New York in early August, just a week after her and James sealed the deal and got married. It was more than necessary for Kate and I to see Jun off as he makes his move to New York. So a month ago, we booked our flights, coordinated it with Jun and helped carry the only part of his life that he can fit into a suitcase.

What felt like a week of adventures (we were only here for three days) I can say this week will be marked as one of those milestones, as my strongest friendships are with those a coast away. With a great sigh and a heavy heart, I wish Iris and Jun the best of luck in New York as Kate and I continue our lives in San Francisco, only hoping that in a year or two, we can make our move to another town I love. San Francisco, I love you, but New York… oh man New York…

It’s 3:50am, so here I am signing off from New York with 5 minutes to spare in Lauren’s Brooklyn apartment. The L train awaits.

Social Networking

Thursday, September 11th, 2008

I’ve never really been into the whole Myspace, Facebook and Friendster thing. I recall spending no more than an hour at its peak. I have accounts for Myspace, Facebook, Blogger and Flickr but I wasn’t really into all of that until iPhone and Facebook released the Facebook app. It’s just too easy to use. The regular Facebook interface (both old and new), no matter how well it’s designed, it just cannot win my attention with the plague of clutter. Myspace has an iPhone app too but it’s so slow and I still don’t care to follow status updates. Facebook seems closer to sophistication.

I admit to maintaining my Myspace, Facebook and Flickr by posting photos but never with any status updates, following up on the bulletin board and reading blogs. But with Facebook, because of the habit-enabling iPhone, I actually read status updates. So hey. I read your status updates. Sometimes they’re funny. Sometimes they’re lame. But I read them.

They were just filming in the Castro 9 months ago, too.

America. America. America.

Thursday, September 4th, 2008

I watched/listened to the Democratic National Convention in small doses because I was too busy to give it a full listen in one straight shot. But I had to listen to the Republican National Convention in small doses because I can’t stomach how so many people bought into this and with so much spite. I’m disgusted. I understand the division of those believing in living in a black and white world and living in a gray world and but both speeches were an attach on hope.

“America! America” America!”

Even more disgusting is how media dubs the Republican National Convention a “grand slam” for Palin.

Once our minds are made up, should that be the end of it? No. We live in a gray world and the wind changes directions within a blink of an eye. We need flexibility and not a stubborn, rigid, state-of-mind.

“Change is not a destination, just as hope is not a strategy.”

They are not human. And why are they chanting “America!” Republican, Democratic, Independent… are we not all Americans? Are common folk like us sub American? This isn’t the olympics.

“Drill, Baby, Drill!”

The Annual Monterey Day Trip

Tuesday, September 2nd, 2008

We mashed up our annual Monterey/Carmel Day Trip with a farewell to Jun, who will head out to move to NYC and leave his best friend. This past Monterey Day Trip will be marked as one of the rare ones. Epic even.

R.I.P.

R.I.P. Don LaFontaine, Bernie Mac and Isaac Hayes. Movie trailers will never be the same. Ocean’s 14 will absolutely not happen. Shaft… Dude. Shaft…
