I love, love, love Across the Universe. The last truly beautiful, kick-ass film I loved like this was Science of Sleep. Pan’s Labyrinth comes close but Science of Sleep and Across the Universe are two all-time faves to name a few. But those two movies and Serendipity and Garden State come rolling off my tongue easily if anybody ever asks, “What are your favorite movies?” Damn, that was great.

This past week has been bumpy with all the lifestyle adjustments that the full-time work world demands, plus I’ve been pretty sick and tethered to my room for the past few days. Today, however, marks my officialness as a professional designer. I’ve been offered a full-time design position with Loomis Group in San Francisco and they are as eager for me to start as I am.
Today, to break away from being trapped in my room for a quicker recovery, Kate and my cousin, Abby, took a day trip to SF to peruse the Mission District and Powell. We visited thrift stores, ate at Osha and had pretty deep conversations over some tea at Samovar Tea Lounge.
Next week, Wednesday, I start my professional career as a full-time, employed graphic designer with a handful of projects and responsibilities being directed my way. Today I received the official offer letter. I like. I treated Kate and Abby to some delicious thai food, tea and scones and bought some pretty cool letterpress things at local boutique shops. I also bought a couple of bottles of wine to kick off a toast with the family and best friends.
A year ago, my Uncle Raymond passed. We all miss him terribly.

Excerpted from Kate’s blog:
…then we took the bus back to union square. jeff got stuck sitting next to some guy named tim. this was their conversation:
tim: yeah i used to weigh about 274 lbs. i’m about 204 lbs. now. you know i work out everyday. once you start working out you know, you just got to keep going, its hard to stop.
jeff: yeah uhh huh know what you mean yeah man.
tim: i took a dianetics iq test and i scored like 128, thats like the highest i’ve scored since high school. yeah they told me that poor guys don’t usually score that high but i’ve always been smart you know. like in high school i used to get really high grades. my stop is almost here i’m getting off at 6th street. i live there.
jeff: yeah uhh huh know what you mean yeah man.
tim: ohh by the way my name’s tim.
jeff: nice to meet you–(i’m) jeff.
tim: (practicallly cuts jeff off, sees a button labeled “pink” on jeff’s bag, mistakes it for “pink” the pop star) ohh i just love pink. man she’s hot. i love her music you know. mizundastood. yeah she’s great. i’d jack off to her if she had nude pictures but she doesn’t.
jeff: ohh for reals. uhh yeah she’s hot. yeah.
tim: babble babble blah blah blah “well this is my stop, nice talking to you man, you take care now”
and tim gets off in the tenderloin…. end of story.

As I anticipated and without making any promises of castrating myself, here are my latest 11 sets of “Lomos.” If I had an ounce of energy and patience to update my Jeffrey.Upstairsloft, I swear I would change the damn title. Anyhow, 9 of them were taken with my Olympus XA, 1 set with my Nikon FE and 1 set with Kate’s Holga 35. The Nikon FE and Holga 35 pictures have recent pictures and pictures that date pretty far back into last year. ‘nough chatter.

When I’m not stressing myself out with the job search, I’m stressing out between probably one of the biggest conflicts I can fret. Do I want to be an earth bender or a wizard? Dammit. Avatar the Last Airbender season 2 is the best thing since cookies and ice cream.

If you buy me the Wacom 6×11″ Intuos3, I will devote a lifetime’s worth of friendship to you.

One down and three to go. Today, Rob let Eric Heiman, of Volume in SF, know that he will be joining them soon when his internship at Chen Design passes. Congrats to Rob. Vince, Kate and I await ours.

I think Macs are great and I’m quite sure I’m not ever switching back. But I still get weirded out when dudes show off their overzealousness in even the slightest ways. But as Kate mentioned, this dude got straight excited, “Wow! We all have real computers,” as he opened his up.
I think they’re great machines but I still get weirded out when people flash them as status symbols. Yes, they’re pretty, the operating system is efficient as hell and we all smile just looking at owning one of Jonathan Ive’s brilliantly designed pieces, but it makes us no better than anybody else. Everybody’s got their own cup of tea and let’s respect that.

I’m already down $90. Jimmy Eat World, Sia and Broken Social Scene are all playing in October, all at the Fillmore. I’m stoked to death about Sia and Broken Social Scene. Guest appearance by Feist, perhaps. If not, it’s still dope. I always wanted to see Jimmy Eat World live. They’ve provided soundtrack music to countless adventures.
I only wish I had my own apartment to return to in SF after shows. Soon enough, Jeff, soon enough. The job search is stressing me out, yo.
