Last Friday, Rob, Vince and I intruded another design class’s field trip to SFMOMA. We parked in Oakland and BARTed it to SF. Nonetheless, Mario loves us three than he loves his own class. Why? ’cause we’re badasses, even though Mario tried to chase me out of his class today since our class was cancelled. Pics:

Almost three days and about 4 hours of sleep. Tonight is going to be awesome. Wednesday is the new Friday. Sleep awaits me. T-minus 2 hours.

I am honestly wishing to study in Zurich right now and learn nothing but typography. I hate designing marks. I hate it, hate it, hate it. The process? O well, that’s fine. As soon as I get to the concept sketching phase, it is all down here from there. I am unimaginative, dimension blind, and ultimately mark-design stupid.

The ones who design the marks are the ones who make the money, but at least people who hire me will have the freshest compositions in the world. I think logos should be erradicated and everybody should just have a logotype that is uniformly identical to each other and drawn with a no. 2 pencil. I’d rather have a paragraph explaining what my company does than to have a logo.

Obviously I am in a bind, with a deadline creeping up at running zombie speed and I am just face-to-face with a wall who will not let me pass. I wish I knew a charm or a spell to get rid of this but I’m just a squib.

About a year ago, Paul introduced me to the coolest pen in the world that I didn’t start using in full-time until now. I finally found a link that sells them and it’s a good deal.

$3 each. $5 flat rate shipping. $25 or more = free shipping. That’s a better deal than buying it at the Japanese import pen and paper store at Santana Row.

I have two pens in my pocket. A black Pilot Precise v5 for writing. I replaced my red Pilot Precise V5 for my Pilot Hi-Tec. I mean, I’ll be sketching more than I’ll be critting. Check out Paul’s sketchbook on his website. I’m such a nerd but I love my pens. They’re magical.

The semester just got three times crazier. This is a marathon race but we’re running this shit like a 100m dash. The Swiss didn’t do this.

Pathetic, I know, but I have been trying to blog for the past 2 days and I kept getting a error that frustrated the hell out of me. “Error 553, Disk Full.” Psh, not even. Blogging is essential in my life. They’re like shoelaces. Now I don’t know what I wanted to blog about it. Perhaps this is a good thing.

Homeworkin 12 hours straight and I have alloted myself 3 more hours of work before I pass out. I’m a soldier; I’m not going crazy. Actually, I’m quite proud. O yeah!!!!! I finished Harry Potter 5. World Record for me.

Within a year I have completed Angels and Demons, Da Vinci Code, Harry Potter IV and V. One more book to go and I caught up. 5 Minute break has passed.

Godammit. That’s why I avoid gettin close with people. I always cross lines. It’s a bad habit. It’s like smokers who obliviously blow smoke in your face as the draft drifts towards you. I’m seriously an ass. Don’t be my friend.

Problem Statement: Design a logo that is a solid and stable square:

It’s as simple as that. Of course all the hard work is behind the scenes with a strenuous process of researching, identifying the problem statement, brainstorming, sketching, synthesizing thoughts and ideas… a lot of the stuff a client is not aware that is happening behind the scenes. Well, this is 1 of 7 projects completed.

Honestly, Gwen isn’t going to even evaluate the logo. She’s going to evaluate the process. This is the first mark I designed that I am proud of. I could have drawn that simple square from the start but it wouldn’t have meaning.

I think I’m going to photo-document my process when working so I can correlate the final result with the experience. Yeah, I think I’ll do that. ‘ can’t wait for July 2006. Kate, NYC and visual extravaganza. Any readers from NYC?

I got so used to sleeping at 330 or 4 that I read for 1-1.5 hours before I sleep when it’s a slow day. If it’s 1:30, I feel like I have 2 hours to read Order of the Phoenix before I can pass out at 2:30 or 3 and still have classified sufficient sleep but the result is bad grammar when I type and speak so maybe I’ll sleep early or maybe not because shit is going down in Harry Potter. My brain is on overdrive and I can no longer tell. This rocks.

But weekends go to waste; I sleep a full 8 because I’m not forced to get up. The worst part of my day is waking up; it’s so hard. Staying awak forever is much easier. I’d rather be busy than starving.

Damn my lack of self control. Especially when I told myself not to watch the Harry Potter: Goblet of Fire trailer. So I did. And I feel jipped. Especially sine the trailer pretty much played the whole movie in clips. I hate that. I wanted to let all the visuals surprise me. I even know what Mad Eye Moody looks like. CURSES! I’m completely ridding myself from all media when Order of the Phoenix draws nearer.
